Snowed in on the island

I thought I would take a moment to note that we have had an incredible amount of snow, for Vancouver Island, over the past two weeks. I want to mark this because it has been a really long time since we've had this much snow, and it will be fun to look back at this in future years.

Financial planning IS one of those things that you could be doing while you are snowed in! It is the start of a new calendar year, so that is also a good reason. You may be tired of working, tired of the past two years - also good reasons to do some financial planning.

A financial plan is all about you. Where are you at, where do you want to be, and what does it take to get there? For example, for retirement planning it is about what are your investments going to do for you in retirement? How much Canada Pension Plan can you expect to receive? (One of the first things I ask people who are planning to retire to do, is call Canada Pension Plan (or log in) and find out how much they are entitled to at 60 and at 65. 1-800-277-9914 and expect to be on hold or request a call through their website. They are very helpful once you get through. See, you could be calling them while you are weathered in!

A financial plan doesn't have to be scary - think of it as a roadmap or the modern equivalent. You likely use an app to help you find somewhere you've never been before, you can use a financial plan in the same way.
